On behalf of Katherine Morrisseau-Sinclair…

On behalf of Katherine Morrisseau-Sinclair and the Lake Winnipeg Water Walkers, I would like to invite you to join us as we near the end of our amazing journey. Whether you are a sponsor, friend, water walker or supporter, you have made this journey possible through your commitment to the water and our future generations.

The Lake Winnipeg Water Walk departed Norway House on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Water was collected in a copper vessel at the beginning of the journey and has been transported 1,032km around Lake Winnipeg by over 100 people.

Along the route, walkers were generously hosted by many of the communities they passed through including Norway House, Grand Rapids, Pinaymootang, Riverton, Gimli, Peguis, St Peter’s, Brokenhead, Sagkeeng, and Manigotagan. Representatives from each of these communities are invited to the final events this Friday, August 8, to take part in the closing ceremony and feast.

The communities of Manigotagan, Aghaming, Seymourville and Hollow Water have come forward to jointly host the final celebrations of the Lake Winnipeg Water Walk. On Thursday, August 7 at 6pm, an evening of storytelling and sharing will be taking place at the Seymourville Community Hall. On Friday, August 8, the final relay of the Lake Winnipeg Water Walk will take place.

2:00 PM – Walkers will begin from last stop location, around 10km out of Manigotagan

4:00 PM – Meet on bridge heading in to Manigotagan, walk together as a large group to the closing ceremony location

4:30 PM – Closing ceremony for the water, led by Katherine Morrisseau-Sinclair

6:00 PM – Traditional Potluck Feast and Entertainment at Manigotagan Community Hall.

Camping spaces are available, must be booked in advance. Please contact Manigotagan Community Organizers at 204-791-7885 or reginaldsimard@gmail.com.

Please join us for these final steps in our journey. We would like to have representatives from each community who hosted us along the way in attendance, along with special guests.
